After receiving the request, reply to the submitter that request has been received and you will send the development website address and log in information. The setup should not take more than a week from receipt of the request.
- Check webform to see if they are requesting advisement on landing page setup.
- Once the basic site is ready, send a link to submitter along with the link to basic page editing directions found at https://publicrelations.ucmerced.edu/web/website-tutorials.
- At this time you can also let them know they can send you a sketch of their landing page, this has worked out well as a starting place to help guide them in their needs.
- If they want a News or Events feed – have them submit the webform requests so you can track and have record.

- Standard layout is the row feature as seen on Chancellor’s site.
- Block style list feeds are available.
- Joshua sets these up.
- Submit the site setup request through Jira and use the following subject line:
- New Dev Site: URL approved nameofsite.ucmerced.edu
- Detail to Derek what the client wants set up and he will assign to Josh for set up.
- IE ¾ slider, specific content blocks etc.
- Change UC Merced logo address to point to www
- Once the site is completed and client notifies you they are ready for launch – ask James if the PIO that covers the subject area can work in a content proof and provide them with website access. The writers all know how to proof and make basic edits as needed.
- You will review the site to make sure images are sized and have the alt text provided, you can send back to the client if they have not been added.
- Check for hardcoded links back to the development server address and fix.
Once your proof is completed and the site is ready for launch, notify the client you are preparing for launch and they should stop any other edits until you notify them the site is now live and can resume editing at the production address.
- Submit the Go Live!! Ticket and by default it goes to Derek and he will handle the move from dev to prod.
To make launches easy to track in Jira, use the following subject line:
Go Live!! Sitename.ucmerced.edu.672elmp01.blackmesh.com - Once the site is live, do a quick run through to make sure there are no hardcoded links left behind pointing to dev.
- If requested, turn on GA module and enter tracking ID
- Add site to SiteImprove and end user to receive reports. (log win to GA with webeditor@ucmerced.edu)
- Notify site owner the site is live and they can proceed to edit at the production address.
- Add new URL to Site Map on Gateway (bottom)
- Submit site to Google Search, log in with webeditor@ucmerced.edu https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/submit-url?hl=en
